I wanted this painting to feel like a place you recognise, even though you have never been there.

There is a horizon, there is light, there are two small birds in the distance - but I deliberately left the rest undefined.

While working on it, I built the darker areas layer by layer and kept the centre softer and quieter. I wanted the eye to move through all that texture and eventually arrive at the open space in the middle.

The gold appeared gradually. I didn't want it to dominate the painting. For me, these small golden details are like moments when light suddenly catches something you hadn't noticed before.

From a distance, the work feels calm and almost dreamlike. When you come closer, you discover a completely different world of texture, movement and small imperfections.

Maybe it is a landscape. Maybe it is a memory. For me, it is that quiet place somewhere between what has already happened and what is still waiting ahead.
