Original Textured Painting "Freedom's Song V" 150 x 90 cm

I wanted to leave a lot of space in this painting.

The first instinct is often to keep adding - another colour, another line, another layer. Here I did the opposite. I kept the upper part quiet and allowed everything to happen in one area.

The darker centre was built gradually with texture and layers of violet, plum, grey and small warm details. Some marks are sharp and defined, others almost disappear into the background.

I like that the work can be seen in completely different ways. There is something floral in it, but also something closer to wings, movement or a form just beginning to appear. I deliberately didn't make that decision for the viewer.

From across the room it is a light, calm painting. When you come closer, it becomes much less simple.
